Samay Raina (born 26 October 1997) is an Indian stand-up comedian and YouTuber known for comedy content and chess live streams on his channel Samay Raina.[1]
He rose to prominence as the co-winner of the stand-up comedy contest Comicstaan 2 in 2019, and since 2024 he has hosted the comedy talent show India's Got Latent. His channel had 11.4 million subscribers and 1.1 billion views as of September 2026.[2]
Early life and education
Raina was born on 26 October 1997 in Jammu, into a conservative Kashmiri Pandit family from the Salia area of Seer Hamdan in Anantnag. He grew up in Hyderabad, where he completed his schooling, and later studied print engineering at Vidhyarthi Griha's College of Engineering and Technology in Pune, Maharashtra.[3] He later gravitated toward stand-up comedy, starting with open mic performances and gradually making a name for himself in Pune's comedy circuit.[4]
Career
Encouraged by fellow comedian Aakash Gupta, Raina auditioned for Comicstaan Season 2 and went on to become the joint winner alongside Gupta in 2019. The show aired on Amazon Prime Video and marked a turning point in his career.[5] He gained wider internet popularity during the COVID-19 period with his stand-up videos and comic shorts.[6]
In 2024 he started hosting the comedy talent show India's Got Latent, a parody of the reality show India's Got Talent. In February 2025 an episode of the show drew widespread criticism after a remark by guest Ranveer Allahbadia was widely described as inappropriate, prompting public debate about content standards on digital platforms.[7]
Personal life
Little has been reported in major media about Raina's personal life.
