Digvesh Singh Rathi (born 15 December 1999) is an Indian cricketer known for his right-arm leg-spin bowling and distinctive "notebook celebration" after taking wickets. He represents Delhi in domestic cricket and plays for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).[1][2]

Early Career

Rathi made his Twenty20 debut on 29 November 2024, playing for Delhi in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.[3] He quickly rose through the ranks due to his sharp spin, tactical control, and ability to perform under pressure.

IPL Debut and Impact

Rathi was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants for ₹30 lakh during the IPL 2025 Super Auction. He made his IPL debut in a match against the Delhi Capitals, claiming his first wicket that of DC captain Axar Patel with just his third delivery in the league.[4][5][6]

Notebook Celebration and Disciplinary Actions

Rathi is famous for his theatrical "notebook celebration", in which he mimics writing in an imaginary notebook after dismissing a batter. Though widely noticed by fans, this gesture has also resulted in multiple disciplinary actions under the IPL Code of Conduct during the 2025 season:

  • On 1 April 2025, Rathi was fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point after giving Priyansh Arya a send-off involving a notebook gesture and minor body contact during an eight-wicket loss in Lucknow.
  • On 11 April 2025, he celebrated similarly after dismissing Naman Dhir during a match against Mumbai Indians, earning a 50% fine and two demerit points.[7]
  • In the subsequent match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rathi used the gesture again after taking the wicket of Sunil Narine. The BCCI issued a warning and charged him under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, adding a third demerit point.
  • In a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rathi dismissed Abhishek Sharma and again performed the notebook gesture, followed by verbal exchange. This breach earned him a fourth demerit point and a one-match suspension, along with another 50% match fee fine.[8][9]

With four demerit points within 36 months, Rathi now faces an immediate ban upon his next violation of the code.[10]
