Mamaearth is an Indian personal care brand owned by Honasa Consumer Limited.[1][2][3] The company was founded in 2016 by Varun Alagh and Ghazal Alagh and initially focused on baby care products.[1][4][5][6] It later expanded into cosmetics and personal care products, including skincare and haircare.[7]

Parent company

Mamaearth is the flagship brand of Honasa Consumer Limited.[8][9] In 2022, Honasa was reported to have reached a valuation of over US$1billion following investment rounds.[10][11][12][13] The company was listed on the NSE and BSE in 2023.[14][15][16]

Controversies

The Advertising Standards Council of India has issued advisories against certain marketing claims made by the brand.[17][18] Industry commentators have criticised the use of terms such as “natural” and “chemical-free” in product promotions.[19][20]
