Early Life and Education
Raj Shamani was born on 29 July 1997 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, into a family that migrated from Rajasthan in the 1980s amid financial hardships. His grandfather and uncle worked in a soap factory, while his father, Naresh Shamani, initially sold coconuts on the streets before establishing a home-based soap-making and chemical trading business in 2003. The family faced challenges, including the 2008 recession and Naresh's diabetic attack in 2013. Raj struggled academically, often labeled a "useless kid," and had difficulties with public speaking, but he developed a passion for storytelling and briefly aspired to become a rapper, influenced by contemporary music.[4]
He attended National Public School in Indore. Shamani earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Prestige Institute of Management & Research, Indore (2013–2016), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai (2019–2021).[5]
Career
At age 16, following his father's health issues, Raj Shamani borrowed ₹10,000 to launch Jadugar Drop, a dish soap brand, using YouTube tutorials and his family's chemical trading expertise. He targeted local shops with a 12–15% profit margin, selling 500 ml bottles and expanding into a multi-level marketing scheme that empowered housewives financially. By 2016, he merged this with his father's company, scaling Shamani Industries from ₹90 lakh to ₹9 crore in annual turnover within 24 months, growing the product line to 16 items including dishwashing liquid, detergent, toilet cleaner, and sanitizer. During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, the company adapted by producing sanitizers and disinfectants, retaining over 400 employees. Shamani Industries now operates as a ₹100-crore business manufacturing household products for central India.[6]
As a content creator, Raj Shamani has over 1 lakh YouTube subscribers, with one video reaching 30 million views in 15 days. He founded the ed-tech platform Figuring Out Academy and, in April 2023, launched House of X to support creators in building D2C brands. He gained business insights from observing kirana stores after failing to secure internships post-college and learned product development through Google, YouTube, and BASF training.[7]
