Brian Chesky
Brian Chesky (born 29 August 1981) is an American entrepreneur and industrial designer. He is the co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Airbnb, the online marketplace for lodging and travel experiences.[1][2]
Early life and education
Chesky was born Brian Joseph Chesky on 29 August 1981 in Niskayuna, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in industrial design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he met future Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia.[1] After graduating in 2004, he moved to Los Angeles to work as an industrial designer before relocating to San Francisco.[1]
Career
In 2007, Chesky and Gebbia began renting air mattresses in their San Francisco apartment to conference attendees, and in 2008 they co-founded Airbnb with Nathan Blecharczyk. The startup was accepted into Y Combinator in 2009.[1] Under Chesky's leadership Airbnb grew into a global platform with millions of listings in over 190 countries, went public in December 2020, and expanded into experiences and long-term stays.[1] He is the 290th richest person in the world according to Forbes, with a net worth of about US$9.2 billion from his roughly 10 percent stake in Airbnb.[2]
The RISD graduate co-founded Airbnb in 2007 and took it public in December 2020.[3]
