Bhuvan Bam (born Bhuvan Avnindra Shankar Bam; (1994-01-22)January 22, 1994) is an Indian YouTuber, comedian, actor, singer and producer best known for his comedy channel BB Ki Vines, where he writes and performs every character himself.[1]

He was the first individual Indian YouTuber to reach 10 million subscribers, won a Filmfare Award for the short film Plus Minus, and has since crossed over into mainstream acting with the web series Dhindora and the Disney+ Hotstar series Taaza Khabar.[2]

Early life and education

Bam was born on 22 January 1994 in Vadodara, Gujarat; his family later moved to Delhi, where he grew up.[3]

He attended Green Fields School in Delhi and graduated from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University, with a bachelor's degree in history.[4]

Before the internet found him, Bam was a struggling musician who performed his own songs at restaurants and small venues around Delhi, dreaming of a career in music.

He has described the moment crowds finally began singing his songs back to him on big stages as a dream come true — the payoff for years of small rooms.[5]

Career

BB Ki Vines

Bam's internet career began almost by accident. He uploaded a satirical video mocking a news reporter who asked a grieving woman insensitive questions after the Kashmir floods; the clip went viral in Pakistan and convinced him to start his own channel.[6]

He launched BB Ki Vines on YouTube in June 2015, filming 2-to-8-minute sketches on his phone in which he plays every role.

The cast includes Bhuvan himself, the street-smart Banchoddas, the innocent Sameer Fuddi, the flamboyant Titu Mama, Babloo, Janki, Mrs. Verma and a whole neighbourhood of others.[7]

The sketches, rooted in the everyday chaos of urban middle-class Indian life, struck a deep chord with young viewers.

The channel's growth was famously organic: Bam has said his following grew purely through word of mouth, with fans loving the relatable topics he picked.[8]

In 2018 he became the first individual Indian YouTube creator to cross 10 million subscribers, earning the Diamond Play Button and the Most Popular Channel honour at the WebTVAsia Awards.[9][10]

Music and short films

Bam never abandoned his first love, music. He released a string of original singles — "Teri Meri Kahani", "Sang Hoon Tere", "Safar", "Rahguzar", "Bas Mein" and "Ajnabee" — several of which collected tens of millions of views.[11]

In 2018 alone his tracks earned over 30 million views collectively.[12]

"Bas Mein", released in March 2019 and dedicated to students sitting their exams, gathered nine million views in four weeks.[13]

He has described music as his escape route, the one space where the comedian drops the characters and speaks as himself.[14]

In 2018 he starred opposite Divya Dutta in the short film Plus Minus, which won the People's Choice Award for Best Short Film at Filmfare 2019 — a rare mainstream honour for a digital-first creator.[15]

The same year he launched Titu Talks, a talk show hosted by his character Titu Mama, whose first guest was Shah Rukh Khan — a full-circle moment for a creator who counts Khan among his biggest inspirations.[16]

He has also collaborated with global creator Lilly Singh.[17]

Dhindora and acting career

In 2021 Bam took his biggest creative leap with Dhindora, an eight-episode YouTube web series built around the BB Ki Vines universe, with Titu Mama's lottery win as the inciting incident.

He wrote, produced and played multiple roles in it, and has called the show life-changing: it introduced him to a far wider audience and forced the industry to see him as more than a sketch comedian.[18]

Success came with a side effect — a wave of offers to play the comic-relief character in films — which is exactly what pushed him to build his own production setup rather than accept being typecast.[19]

To control his own stories, Bam founded BB Ki Vines Productions (BBKV Productions) with producer Rohit Raj, the banner behind Dhindora and Taaza Khabar.

He has said the production house matters because it lets him choose collaborators he trusts rather than wait for the industry to offer him roles — in his words, the work will keep coming and going, but the people you work with have to be right.[20]

OTT debut: Taaza Khabar

He made his OTT acting debut with Disney+ Hotstar's Taaza Khabar (2023), playing Vasant "Vasya" Gawde, a Mumbai sanitation worker who suddenly gains the power to see the future.

The fantasy comedy-drama, directed by Himank Gaur and written by Hussain and Abbas Dalal, earned him acclaim and a second season in 2024.[21][22]

He also appeared in the Amazon miniTV series Rafta Rafta and lent his voice to the Hindi version of Takeshi's Castle on Prime Video.[23]

He has additionally teased a Hindi film project with Dharma Productions.[24]

Recent work

Bam is currently headlining Amazon Prime Video's period drama The Revolutionaries, playing the real-life freedom fighter Rash Behari Bose, a master of disguise — his most serious role yet and a deliberate move against typecasting.[25]

He has also confirmed that Dhindora 2 is in the works, with the sequel moving to Netflix under director Sneha Shetty Kohli and expected in 2026.[26]

He has described the sequel as extremely personal, since the characters have grown up alongside him and his audience — and admitted he had to rewrite a lot of drafts to get it right.[27]
