Aryan Maan
Aryan Maan (born 2002) is an Indian student leader and politician who serves as the President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU). Affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), he won the 2025 DUSU elections with a significant margin, securing 28,841 votes. Maan is known for his advocacy on student welfare issues, including affordable transportation and campus infrastructure improvements. A national-level football player, he hails from a prominent family in Haryana with roots in business and traditional wrestling.[1]
Early Life and Education
Aryan Maan was born in 2002 in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, India, into a Jat family with a legacy in sports and entrepreneurship. His grandfather, Shrichand Maan, was a renowned wrestler and the head of the Lova Satrah Khap. His father, Sikandar Maan, is the Executive Director of ADS Spirits Private Limited, a liquor manufacturing company in Beri, Jhajjar, known for brands like Royal Green whiskey. His elder brother, Virat Maan, serves as CEO of ADS Group and Director of RocoBrand.[2]
Maan completed his schooling in Haryana before enrolling at Hansraj College, University of Delhi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree in 2025. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Library Science at the University of Delhi's Department of Library Science. During his undergraduate years, he became actively involved in campus politics through ABVP, participating in protests against fee hikes and demands for better facilities.[3]
Political Career
Entry into Student Politics
Maan joined the ABVP, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), early in his college life. He quickly rose through the ranks due to his oratory skills and organizational abilities, leading several campus campaigns focused on student rights and nationalism.
2025 DUSU Elections
In the 2025 DUSU elections held on 18 September, Maan contested for the presidency on an ABVP ticket. His campaign emphasized practical student-centric promises, including subsidized metro passes, free Wi-Fi across campuses, accessibility audits for disabled students, and upgraded sports infrastructure. The elections saw a voter turnout of 39.45% among 2.75 lakh eligible students, with voting conducted at 52 centers and 195 booths. Maan defeated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) candidate Joslyn Nandita Choudhary by a wide margin, receiving 28,841 votes to her 12,645. ABVP secured three out of four key positions: Maan as President, Kunal Chaudhary as Secretary (23,779 votes), and Deepika Jha as Joint Secretary (21,825 votes). The victory was bolstered by endorsements, including from Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, a family acquaintance.The election was not without controversy. NSUI alleged irregularities, including blue ink marks on electronic voting machines (EVMs) at Hansraj College and Kirori Mal College that purportedly favored Maan's name. Maan dismissed these claims, focusing instead on his agenda for student welfare.[4]
