Aryaman Vikram Birla (born 9 July 1997) is an Indian businessman and former first-class cricketer. He is the only son of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the Aditya Birla Group. Birla serves as a non-executive director on the boards of several major Aditya Birla Group companies, including Grasim Industries, Hindalco Industries, and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL). He founded the group's hospitality platform, Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, and its venture capital arm, Aditya Birla Ventures. In March 2026, he was appointed chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) following the franchise's acquisition by a consortium linked to the Aditya Birla Group.[1][2]
Early life and education
Born in Mumbai, Birla is the son of Kumar Mangalam Birla and Neerja Birla. He has two sisters, Ananya Birla (an entrepreneur and singer) and Advaitesha Birla. He began playing cricket at the age of nine and pursued the sport seriously alongside his studies.
Birla holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the Universit[3]y of Mumbai. He later earned a Master's degree in Global Finance from Bayes Business School (City, University of London) and an MBA with Honors from Harvard Business School.[4]
Cricket career
Birla is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in the IPL.
[5]He made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy season. In nine first-class matches, he scored 414 runs at an average of 27.60, with a highest score of 103* (one century and one half-century). He also played four List A matches, scoring 36 runs.
In 2018, he was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for ₹30 lakh in the IPL auction but did not feature in any matches. He announced an indefinite sabbatical from cricket in December 2019 citing severe anxiety related to the sport.[6]
Business career
Birla has held leadership roles across multiple Aditya Birla Group businesses, including fashion, paints, and real estate. He serves on the board of the group's apex body, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Private Limited, as well as on the boards of Grasim Industries, Hindalco Industries, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL), TMRW (the group's digital-first fashion platform), and others.
He is the founder of Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, the group's fast-growing hospitality platform, and Aditya Birla Ventures, its venture capital arm focused on high-growth startups in emerging sectors.
In March 2026, following the $1.78 billion acquisition of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Birla was appointed chairman of the IPL franchise, bringing together his cricketing background and business expertise.[7]
