Mohak Mangal (born April 28, 1992) is an Indian YouTuber, content creator, and digital influencer known for his analytical videos on politics, current affairs, and social issues through his YouTube channel, Mohak Mangal. His evidence-based content and engaging storytelling have garnered a significant following, particularly among Indian youth, with over 4.3 million subscribers and approximately 50 million monthly views as of 2025. Mangal combines his academic background in economics with a passion for educating the public, addressing complex topics in an accessible manner.[1][2]

Early Life and Education

Mohak Mangal was born on April 28, 1992, in New Delhi, India, to Naresh Mangal and Promila Mangal. He grew up in a well-to-do Hindu family and has a sister, Ishita Mangal, who works as a fashion designer and creative director. Mangal attended Delhi Public School (DPS) R.K. Puram, New Delhi, for his schooling. He briefly underwent IIT coaching at Narayana IIT/NEET Academy but discontinued after a month.[3]

Mangal pursued a Bachelor of Economics at Singapore Management University, followed by a Master’s degree in International and Development Economics from Yale University. He later earned an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, further solidifying his academic foundation. His educational journey equipped him with the skills to analyze and communicate complex socio-economic issues effectively.

Career

Early Professional Career

Mangal began his professional career in 2009 as a business consultant at AlphaBeta, a Singapore-based firm, where he worked on economics-related projects. He later served as a technical assistant in Myanmar, collaborating with the World Bank’s Education Team to monitor and review programs in partnership with the Ministry of Education. Additionally, he worked as a project manager at the International Growth Centre, advising the Ministry of Commerce on the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). His early career in development economics included fieldwork in rural Bihar with J-PAL (Jameel Poverty Action Lab).

Mangal also contributed to reputable news platforms such as Scroll.in, ThePrint.in, and Vox.com, honing his skills in research, content creation, and storytelling. These experiences laid the groundwork for his transition to digital content creation.

YouTube Career

In 2018, Mangal launched his YouTube channel, initially named The Soch Project, alongside friends Ishleen Sethi and Shikhar Swaroop. The channel began as an infotainment platform, using memes to deliver informed content. Its first video, titled “Fake News over WhatsApp in India, explained,” was uploaded on May 2, 2018. Frustrated by the spread of misinformation on platforms like WhatsApp, Mangal shifted the channel’s focus to purely informative content, rebranding it as Mohak Mangal. The channel emphasizes well-researched, evidence-backed videos on topics such as unemployment, education, women’s safety, and political strategies.

Controversies

In May 2025, Mangal accused Asian News International (ANI) of misusing copyright laws to extort money from content creators. He claimed ANI demanded ₹30-40 lakh to remove copyright strikes on his videos for using brief clips, alleging unethical practices. ANI responded by suing Mangal for defamation, seeking ₹2 crore in damages. The controversy sparked widespread discussion on X, with creators like Kunal Kamra and Saurav Das supporting Mangal’s claims, highlighting concerns about copyright ethics in India’s digital space.[4]

Personal Life

Mangal married Shaneez Mohinani, a Sindhi woman born in Surabaya, Indonesia, in November 2019 after an eight-year relationship that began in 2011 during their time at Singapore Management University. The couple maintained a long-distance relationship for five years before tying the knot in a destination wedding in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where they wore Sabyasachi outfits. Mohinani is the founder and host of the podcast Down to Zero and works as a Climate Fund Principal at Clocktower Technology Ventures in Santa Monica, California.[5][6]

Mangal is an avid reader of political science, sociology, and history books and a passionate football fan, supporting Chelsea F.C. He has openly shared his struggles with a low attention span, which he addresses through innovative content strategies. Mangal identifies as non-religious and resides in Delhi, India, while maintaining a global outlook shaped by his international education and work experience.
