Darren Jason Watkins Jr., known online as IShowSpeed or simply Speed, is an American YouTube streamer famous for his explosive personality, his devotion to Cristiano Ronaldo, and his globe-trotting IRL live streams.

Born 21 January 2005 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he has grown from a bedroom gamer into one of the most-watched live creators on the planet.

Early life and education

Watkins was born on 21 January 2005 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later moved to online schooling to accommodate his streaming career, graduating in 2023.

He began livestreaming games such as NBA 2K and Fortnite in late 2017, and his viewership exploded in 2021 as clips of his intense gaming reactions went viral on TikTok.

Career

Viral rise

Speed's breakthrough came from a volatile mix: chaotic gaming streams, football obsession, particularly his idolisation of Cristiano Ronaldo and his trademark "Siuuu!" celebration, and clips of his most unhinged moments spreading across social media.

His Ronaldo devotion is more than a bit. He has met the footballer multiple times, tattooed his name on himself, and turned "Siuuu!" into a chant recognised in stadiums and schoolyards worldwide.

His audience growth has been relentless, with the channel crossing 40 million subscribers, a record for a YouTube streamer, as he shifted from gaming into full-time IRL broadcasting.

He has been named Streamer of the Year and has become a fixture of internet culture, recognisable far beyond his own platform.

Mainstream moments

Speed's fame has spilled into sport and entertainment. He made a surprise appearance at WWE's Royal Rumble in 2025, stepping into the ring before being promptly eliminated.

A meetup with Neymar went viral when the footballer's reaction to Speed's energy became a meme in its own right.

World tours

In 2025 Speed embarked on an ambitious Asia tour, broadcasting live from China, Hong Kong and Mongolia from late March, drawing enormous local crowds wherever he went.

His China streams became a genuine cultural moment. The trip was hailed by Beijing officials and state media as evidence of a growing desire for mutual understanding between Americans and Chinese.

The tour included a Cristiano Ronaldo surprise arranged during his China trip and a Jackie Chan stream that fell through at the last minute, both covered breathlessly by his fanbase.

He has said he plans to take the tour to Africa, Europe, the Middle East and South America before the 2026 World Cup, and eventually wants to stream from every country on Earth, even floating the idea of a space stream with Elon Musk's Starlink.

Style and influence

Speed's streaming style is deliberately unfiltered and chaotic, built on high-energy reactions, viral stunts and improvised IRL broadcasts.

He has also shown a softer side on tour, engaging respectfully with local cultures and crowds, a big part of why his international broadcasts have been embraced rather than merely watched.

His story is, in many ways, the story of the modern internet: a teenager from Cincinnati who turned raw energy and a webcam into a global audience of tens of millions.
