He is the most-subscribed individual creator of Indian origin in Asia, having crossed 40 million subscribers in August 2023, and has been recognised by TIME magazine as one of its Next Generation Leaders and by Forbes in its 30 Under 30 Asia list.[2]

Early life and education

Ajey Nagar was born on 12 June 1999 in Faridabad, Haryana, a city adjoining New Delhi.[3]

He attended Delhi Public School in Faridabad. Unlike most children his age, Nagar was already experimenting with online video as a pre-teen, teaching himself editing, commentary and audience-building years before YouTube became a viable career in India.[4]

He began making and uploading videos at the age of ten.[5]

He has said he poured his "hopes, dreams, blood and sweat" into entertaining people from childhood, and he later stepped away from conventional schooling to devote himself to content creation full-time, completing his formal education through distance learning.[6]

Career

Roast videos and rise to fame

Nagar built his reputation on Hindi roasts and satirical reaction videos, a format that was still rare in India when he started.

His early targets included television spectacles like Bigg Boss, internet personalities such as Dhinchak Pooja and Deepak Kalal, and viral trends he skewered with rapid-fire mimicry and exaggerated characters.[7]

He also took on global star PewDiePie over videos mocking India, a feud that introduced him to an international audience.[8]

In January 2019 he channelled that rivalry into "Bye PewDiePie", a diss track that became one of his most-watched uploads.[9]

Nagar's rise was unusually methodical for a creator his age. His long-time business partner and manager Deepak Char has said Nagar "meticulously studied YouTube content for a decade" and understands the pulse of both audiences and brands, calling his growth a snowball effect still in its early stages.[10]

By 2021 he had become the first Indian YouTuber to cross 30 million subscribers.[11]

In August 2023 he crossed 40 million subscribers with more than 3.4 billion total views — the most-subscribed individual personality of Indian origin on YouTube across Asia, and the only Indian in the global top 50 most-followed personalities on the platform.[12]

Along the way he collected five YouTube Creator Awards, including two Silver Play Buttons, two Gold Play Buttons and a Diamond Play Button, and was named to TIME's Next Generation Leaders list in 2019, Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia in 2020 and India Today's 50 Under 50 in 2021.[13]

YouTube vs TikTok controversy

In May 2020 Nagar released "YouTube vs TikTok: The End", a roast aimed at TikTok creator Amir Siddiqui, who had earlier posted videos taunting YouTubers.[14]

The video exploded, drawing tens of millions of views in days and igniting a platform-wide war between YouTube and TikTok fanbases in India.

YouTube then removed the video for violating its harassment and cyberbullying policies, a decision that triggered the #JusticeForCarry trend and an outpouring of support from fellow creators.[15]

Nagar broke his silence with an emotional note, writing that it was "hard to accept" and "frustrating" that the video was pulled just a day before it would have become the most-liked non-music video in the world.[16]

He added that "sometimes the biggest achievements become an easy target to be pulled down", and accepted that the video would remain banned and never be restored.[17]

He later closed the chapter with the rap single "Yalgaar", released in June 2020, which trended at the top of YouTube and formally ended the YouTube-versus-TikTok feud.[18]

Music

Parallel to roasting, Nagar built a second identity as a Hindi rapper.

Working with his elder brother Wily Frenzy as producer, he released tracks including "Trigger", "Zindagi", "Warrior", "Vardaan" and "Yalgaar", several of which crossed tens of millions of views.[19]

His songs blend personal storytelling with diss-track bravado, and "Yalgaar" in particular doubled as both a musical statement and a truce offering after the TikTok war.[20]

Style and evolution

Nagar is widely credited with pioneering the Hindi roast format in India, pairing mimicry and character comedy with the confrontational energy of hip-hop diss culture.

He has said he wants to explore areas that bring more depth to his content, describing himself as someone who keeps learning and evolving rather than repeating a winning formula.[21]

Gaming, Playground and charity streams

Nagar is also one of India's biggest gaming creators. He runs CarryisLive, a dedicated gaming and live-streaming channel.[22]

He has served as a mentor on Amazon miniTV's Playground, India's first gaming reality show, guiding teams of aspiring creators through competitive gaming and entertainment challenges.[23]

He has repeatedly used his live streams for disaster relief. In June 2023 he hosted a four-hour charity stream for the victims of the Odisha train collision that raised roughly ₹11 lakh, including a ₹1.5 lakh personal contribution, all donated to the Chief Minister's relief fund.[24]

In July 2026 he hosted an eight-hour stream on CarryisLive for Assam flood relief that raised over ₹13 lakh, with ₹2.3 lakh donated by Nagar himself and ₹2.5 lakh contributed by British YouTuber KSI.[25]

Over the years he has organised similar fundraisers for the Kerala, Bihar and Assam floods, the Pulwama attack victims, Cyclone Fani, the Australian bushfires and COVID-19 relief.[26]
